Peake Engines produced a series of high quality ornate stand alone steam engines of their own design. Typically made in batches ranging from 10 to 100 engines.

This was the first engine made in the BODKIN line. It is quite a fascinating engine to watch as it has two opposing exhaust ports. Another interesting thing about this engine is that it can run in either direction without changing anything! It just runs in the direction you start it.

Minor

A fully functional single acting oscillating steam engine comprised primarily of brass, with a piston of stainless and an exhaust of copper. The cylinder bore is 3.96mm and the stroke length is 7mm. It runs anti-clockwise and is entitled 'MINOR'. It is mounted on a piece of antique pine.

Limited edition Major engine with a brass flywheel

Fully functional single acting oscillating steam engine comprised of brass and steel with a piston of stainless and an inlet/exhaust combination of copper. The cylinder bore is 6.35mm (1/4") and the stroke length is 12.7mm (1/2"). It runs anti-clockwise. Mounted on a small piece of reclaimed antique pine. The first 10 engines were produced as a limited edition with a brass flywheel.

The BODKIN No 2 employs a very similar valve as the BODKIN No 1. The Engine is double-acting. The engine is able to be reversed by simply loosening a bolt, albeit very small, and changing the angle between the eccentric and the crank.

Minor

Utilised a double acting piston/cylinder resulting in a increase in power. Other mechanical changes resulted in this engine being more compact than the regular Minor. Mounted on Australian Silver-oak.

Peake No. 2

Peake Engines - Peake No. 2

Peake No. 2 is a single acting "upside down" steam engine. It is the first of the Peake Engines to have a cast 'S' spoked flywheel. The main body is also a casting, resulting in a relatively large overall weight. The engine is reversible and the timing of the valve is adjustable, allowing the user to change the direction in which the engine runs.

The Peake N° 3 is a particularly unique steam engine owing to its use of the Sun & Planet Gear, a mechanism. The Sun & Planet Gear performs very well and has the curious property of rotating the flywheel twice for every cycle. The engine is mounted on Australian Silver Oak.

Micro

Bore of only 3.1mm (1/8"), a stroke of 4mm (5/32") and a flywheel diameter of just under half an inch, you may need your glasses, to see whats going on! Because of the tiny dimensions of this engine it requires 30PSI of air/steam to run.

It sounds like a bee and as you'd expect, it spins so quick that it's impossible to see the movement in detail even at it's idling speed.

V2

Peake Engines - V2

The V2 was the first multi-cylinder production engine to be made by Peake Engines. It is a V-twin, with an angle of 67 degrees. Mounted on a piece of Australian Silver Oak. Each engine has a name plate, which displays the year of production and the unique number of that particular engine.

'Powerhouse'

Peake Engines - No. 4 Powerhouse

This engine was inspired by the Boulton and Watt engine in the Powerhouse museum in Sydney. It is a beam engine featuring a Sun & Planet gear. The Sun & Planet gear is an interesting mechanism because for every cycle of the piston, the flywheel rotates two full revolutions. 

The engine runs on 15 P.S.I. The bore is 7.94mm (5/16") and the stroke is 12mm (0.472") giving Powerhouse a capacity of 0.59cc! The engine is mounted on a base of Australian Silver Oak. Only 11 engines of this model created.

'Mercury'

Only 15 Mercury engines were made. It is a double acting, half beam engine. Mounted on a Australian Silver Oak base.

'Hypnocycle'

The most unique engine - the Hypnocycle. The crankshaft has a double purpose, serving as the valve as well. The crankshaft then drives the flywheel shaft via two 24 teeth spur gears.
